Middle East and media co-op

media co-op's Lucinda Broadbent was invited to coach documentary film-makers from Middle-Eastern countries at a pitching workshop in Turkey.  

Winner of the $15,000 ITVS prize at the event was Palestinian director Emad Burnat, with "Five Broken Cameras", a dramatic documentary on his village's resistance against Israel's security fence. 

"A huge thanks to Lucinda for her advice and input" said Emad, whose life was saved when an Israeli bullet hit his camera instead of his face. 

 

Citizens in Spanish

London-based aid agency CAFOD has commissioned media co-op to create an online "video wall", connecting Spanish-speakers in El Salvador with schoolkids across the UK who are studying Spanish language.

 

Salvadorian teenagers Victor and Vicente share their lives and views in a project combining language-learning with education for citizenship. It's modeled on the innovative video wall developed by media co-op with the Glasgow-based agency aid SCIAF, featuring French-speaking youngsters from the Democratic Republic of Congo. First Light

media co-op is working on a drama about autism with twelve teenagers at Hillpark School 

Part of the UK Film Council's "First Light" scheme, this short film has been devised by the young people, some of them on the autism spectrum themselves. media co-op has brought in Scottish feature-film director Aileen Ritchie as part of the team.

Chief Exec’s from five different social enterprises and voluntary organistions attended media co-op’s Advanced Media Training course, held at STV studios. Former STV reporter Claire Dean was one of the tutors.

Participants’ feedback included:

Gender roadshow

Oxfam celebrated their European GenderWorks project with a roadshow across the UK, hitting London, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff. Next stop is Brussels.  "media co-op's multi-language DVD is a highlight of our two-year project," commented Oxfam. "We're thrilled with the quality of the films they've produced, getting across the message about women and poverty in a way that makes audiences sit up any take notice."
